Cash Discount FAQ

How does cash discount work?

It’s simple. A cash discount operates like a surcharge but is legally called a cash discount. Ex: Someone wants to buy a shirt for $100. If they pay with their credit card, they will pay $103.99. If they pay with cash, their price will be $100. You can do this by posting a sign saying “all prices are listed as ‘cash price.'” The 3.99% charge will cover your payment processing fees, making it so that you do not have to pay any processing fees on said transaction.

Research and experience have shown that cash discounting does not affect consumer behavior, and 99.2% of the time cash discount is not an issue at the point of sale. We have found that if business owners are willing to implement Cash Discount for a minimum of three months, they will never go back to traditional.

Won’t customers complain?

I’ve never seen cash discount before, is it popular?

Places that you go to every day are already implementing a cash discount. The biggest example that you see in your everyday life is gas stations. Government institutions always have a cash discount and it has become increasingly popular with all types of businesses such as bars, salons, restaurants, auto shops, and many more.

Cash discounts can be done in a variety of different ways. Some companies like to begin by charging the customer 2% as opposed to the standard 3.99%. The fees that are not paid for by the cash discount, will be paid for by the business owner.

I don’t want my customers to have to pay 3.99%, can I have them only cover part of the fee?
